Wings of Courage tells the true story of the life of African-American adventurer and patriot Eugene Bullard. A professional boxer, jazz musician, pilot and spy, Bullard was denied a place in the U.S. Army and instead joined the French Foreign Legion’s elite Layfayette Escadrille, where he flew the famous Red Baron. When the Escadrille incorporated into the U.S. Army Corps in 1917, the color of Bullard’s skin prevented him from taking his place alongside the other American heroes of his day. Using storytelling, music and drama, Mad River Theater Works tells an uplifting tale of vision and hope that deserves to be known by all Americans, young and old.
