As part of Montalvo's master class series and based on Montalvo's Salon Series, the Cypress String Quartet explores the intricate process of creativity and inspiration with Lincoln High School's orchestra program.
The April 10 master class leads up to the April 17 concert at which Cypress String Quartet will premier the newest quartet by brilliant young San Francisco composer Kurt Rohde. Rohde composed this new piece of music using Joseph Haydn’s final completed quartet, Opus 77 No. 2, as inspiration. Rohde will be in attendance at the concert to provide insight into the creative process that culminated in this stunning new string quartet.
The April 22 master class leads up to the May 4 concert, where Cypress String Quartet concludes the Beethoven series with the quartet the composer himself called "Liebquartett" ("Dear Quartet"). This work is unusual among string quartets in that it is written in six movements, including an extra dance and slow movement that have become some of Beethoven's best known and most adored quartet segments: the Cavatina and the Alla danza tedesca. Members enjoy an informal reception after the concert.
